Top Activities for Kids in Jackson Hole this Spring Break

The snow is still falling here in Jackson and we are thrilled about it. It means that this year’s spring break will be extra exciting, with plenty of the white, fluffy stuff for your kiddos to play in.

Book a Self-Catering Cabin

Worried about crowds? You can book a self-catering luxury cabin with us and have plenty of distance. Cook your own meals, plan an adventure, then snuggle up with your family by the fire at night. Each self-catering unit has an outside space to play, a full kitchen, and a cozy fireplace. So who wants to play a board game and listen to the fire crackle?

Hit the Slopes at One of the Many Ski Resorts

Did you know that Jackson Hole has three ski resorts nearby? That’s a lot of terrain! For older kids that love a challenge, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is the place to be. With a variety of terrain (mostly catering to capable skiers and riders), there’s an adrenaline rush for the whole family. Be sure to make your ski day reservations in advance.

Beginners and younger families will want to check out Snow King, the local’s favorite right in town. Their beginner ski school is top-notch and with plenty of green terrain, there’s ample room to learn. Not to mention, it’s the smallest resort on the list so it’s hard to get lost. When you’re finished you can pop right into downtown in less than 5 minutes.

Grand Targhee brings out the powder hound in everyone. If you’re chasing fresh snow, then this resort is for you. Catering to mostly intermediate and advanced skiers, you can ski here for days and never do the same run twice. If you’re new, there’s a dedicated Adventure Zone that’s got plenty of mellow runs to learn on.

Go Shopping at the Toy and Candy Stores

Got a sweet tooth? Maybe you want to appease your inner shop-a-holic. Head over to Teton Toys and get your kiddos a souvenir. The shop has toys for kids of all ages, even several outdoor fun toys to enhance your adventures. Pick up a board game for the whole family. Or pay a visit to the Yupp I-O Candy store where you can choose from an endless sea of sugary treats to satisfy that sweet tooth. From old-fashioned candies to locally made huckleberry products there’s an option for even the pickiest eaters.

Head Out on a Sleigh Ride

Experience the magical winter wonderland (with that fresh spring sun of course) on a fun-filled sleigh ride. This traditional mode of transport glides you through some of the most stunning scenery in Jackson Hole. We’ll head into the iconic National Elk Refuge. Our mighty horses and trained guides take you into the heart of the landscape where you can spot mighty elk, deer, and maybe even a coyote or two. Pack your winter coat and we will bring the blankets!

Fancy a different kind of sleigh ride? Hop on a dog sled and learn how these incredible teams of huskies work together to pull riders, cargo, and more. At the Jackson Hole Iditarod and Continental Divide Dog Sledding gives you a glimpse into this ancient past time. Learn to drive or “mush” the dogs as you glide over the snow. Alternatively, you can just snuggle up and enjoy the ride as the pros do the rest.

Sail Downhill on a Snowtube

Both Grand Targhee and Snow King serve up a snow tube hill that’s a force to be reckoned with. Have some high-flying fun as you watch your kiddos whisk downhill on a fast-moving tube. Or participate yourself – we don’t judge! This favorite spring break pastime lets you get outside and play in the snow while soaking in that afternoon sunshine.

We love Snow King Mountain for its Cowboy Coaster, a two-person sled that winds its way through nearly a mile of fun-filled track. The best part? It’s open year-round and you can bundle your tubing experience too.

Snowmobile in Yellowstone

Want to see the highlights of America’s great national park without the crowds? Then book a snowmobile tour in winter. Take a snowmobile tour with the whole family to see the mighty Old Faithful in a springtime scene you won’t forget. You’ll drive while your kid hangs out in front of you. This activity is suitable for beginner snowmobilers too! Don’t wanna ride? You can hop on a luxurious snowcoach and take a heated trip to the park instead.

Springtime in Jackson may mean that winter is coming to a close, but that doesn’t mean you still can’t find plenty of fun in the snow. You’ll love the warm mountain sunshine and the kids will have a blast exploring the best of Jackson. So come on down to Spring Creek Ranch and let us show you what western hospitality is all about.
